Your MPPT controller app may show fewer amps from the solar panels than it sends toward the battery. That does not necessarily indicate an error. The controller converts power between two different voltage levels, so the current on the PV side and battery side can be different.
To interpret an MPPT solar controller app, first identify where each reading is measured. A number labeled “current” is not meaningful until you know whether it refers to solar input, controller output or net current entering the battery.
Electrical power is approximately watts = volts × amps. Imagine the PV input is operating at 36 volts and 5 amps. That is 180 watts. If a hypothetical controller transfers 95% of that power to a battery charging at 14.2 volts, its output is approximately 171 ÷ 14.2 = 12.0 amps.
The output current is higher because the output voltage is lower. The controller has not created energy. The 95% figure here is an illustrative assumption, not a performance claim for a Bateria Power model. Real readings change with sunlight, temperature, operating point and conversion losses.
| App reading | What it can tell you | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| PV voltage | Voltage at the solar input | That the array is delivering useful power |
| PV current | Current from the panels | Current entering the battery |
| Charge current | Controller output toward the DC system | Net battery charge when other loads run |
| Battery voltage | Voltage at the measurement point | An exact state of charge in every condition |
| Daily energy | Energy accumulated over the day | Tomorrow's solar yield |
If the controller supplies 12 amps while equipment on the same DC system consumes 4 amps, roughly 8 amps may be available to charge the battery, before other effects. An app measuring only controller output can still display 12 amps. A suitably installed battery monitor measures a different point in the system.
This distinction is useful in an RV running lights, fans or a refrigerator during charging. It also explains why a strong solar reading does not automatically mean the battery percentage is rising quickly.
A nearly full battery may accept less current. A configured charging limit can also reduce output. Shade, cloud, panel angle and warm panels change available power, while battery or controller protection can restrict charging under unsuitable conditions.
Before changing settings, record the time, weather, battery voltage, charging stage and active loads. Compare readings under similar conditions. A screenshot taken near sunset is not a fair comparison with a panel's laboratory rating, and a panel voltage reading without current is not proof of a healthy charging circuit.
Bateria Power offers a 10A/20A wireless MPPT controller and 60A/80A/100A controllers with a Bluetooth module. Their displayed fields, available settings and connection method can differ.
The separately listed BT-2 wireless module is intended for the specified compatible controller family. Do not assume that every controller accepts the same module or that Bluetooth means internet access from anywhere. Check the exact controller, module and supported app before ordering.
No. Its output depends on available solar power, battery voltage, settings, temperature and battery demand, within the controller's specified limits.
No. Monitoring does not replace correctly sized wiring, suitable overcurrent protection or the battery's required protection system.
No. Use the battery manufacturer's charging requirements. An unexplained low current reading is a reason to investigate the system, not to raise voltage arbitrarily.
