Of the planet's estimated 117 million lakes, roughly 2 million — over 7% of the global total — sit inside Canada's borders. The country holds about 20% of the world's fresh surface water. Lake Superior, shared with the United States, is the largest freshwater lake by surface area on Earth. Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake, both in the Northwest Territories, are among the ten deepest lakes on the planet.
If you stand on almost any dock in Canada, you're looking at water that has been there since the glaciers retreated roughly 11,000 years ago — and people have been crossing that water, quietly, for just as long.
To understand why electric propulsion is finding a natural home in Canada, you have to understand how deeply the water runs through the country's identity — and how the oldest traditions on that water have always valued the same thing electricity offers: silence.
Long before Europeans arrived, the Indigenous peoples of what is now Canada had spent thousands of years perfecting the most elegant watercraft ever built: the birchbark canoe.

And the boats that carry this life are small, simple, and increasingly — quietly — electric.
Canadian fishing is less tournament-driven than the American version. Where American bass fishing is built around competition — tournaments, rankings, prize money — Canadian angling is built around place.
The species reflect the geography. Lake trout in the deep, cold lakes of the Canadian Shield. Northern pike in the weedy shallows of the prairie lakes. Smallmouth bass in the rocky structure of Ontario cottage country. Walleye — the prized eating fish of the Canadian interior — in the rivers and lakes of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
Catching these fish requires the same thing it always has: patience, stealth, and the ability to hold a boat in just the right spot — over a drop-off, along a weed line, beside a submerged boulder — without drifting away and without making noise that spooks the fish.
